Overview
This five-day tour introduces Portugal's two most iconic cities, starting in Porto - a UNESCO World Heritage city built along the Douro River, known for its port wine cellars, tiled facades, and the Ribeira district's colorful waterfront - before continuing south to Lisbon, with a stop at the pilgrimage site of Fatima along the way. In Lisbon, guided sightseeing covers the Belem district's monuments to Portugal's Age of Discovery, the city's hilltop castle, and its grand central squares. Two free days leave room for optional excursions: a full-day trip to the medieval town of Guimaraes and the hilltop sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte near Braga, or a coastal tour to Sintra's fairy-tale palaces, the beach town of Cascais, and Cabo da Roca, continental Europe's westernmost point, plus an optional evening of traditional Fado music in Lisbon. Turkish Airlines operates the round-trip flights from Istanbul, with a Turkish-speaking tour leader throughout.
Itinerary
- Day 1 :
Istanbul - Porto
Fly from Istanbul on Turkish Airlines flight TK1449, departing at 8:10 AM and arriving in Porto around 10:05 AM local time. In the afternoon, join a panoramic city tour of Porto, taking in Bento Station, Sao Francisco Church, the Stock Exchange Palace, Porto Cathedral, the historic wine cellars, Liberdade Square, Batalha Square, the Ribeira district, Clerigos Tower, Santa Catarina street, the Dom Luis I and Arrabida bridges, and the Boa Vista district. Overnight in Porto.
- Day 2 :
Porto
A free morning in Porto. Guests who wish may join the optional Guimaraes, Braga & Bom Jesus do Monte tour, visiting the medieval walled town of Guimaraes, birthplace of Portugal's first king, and the hilltop Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary in Braga, reached by its famous zigzag Baroque staircase. Overnight in Porto.
- Day 3 :
Porto - Fatima - Lisbon
Check out and travel south toward Lisbon, roughly a 3-hour drive, with a stop in Fatima, one of Catholicism's most visited pilgrimage sites. Continue to Lisbon for a panoramic city tour covering Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, Rossio Square, Praca do Comercio, Liberdade Avenue, Marques de Pombal Square, and Sao Jorge Castle. Overnight in Lisbon.
- Day 4 :
Lisbon
A free morning in Lisbon. Guests who wish may join the optional Sintra, Cascais, Estoril & Cabo da Roca tour, visiting the fairy-tale Sintra National Palace, continental Europe's westernmost point at Cabo da Roca, the golden-sand beaches of Cascais, and the seaside town of Estoril. In the evening, an optional Fado Night lets guests experience Portugal's traditional melancholic music, with dinner available as an add-on. Overnight in Lisbon.
- Day 5 :
Lisbon - Istanbul
After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Lisbon Airport for Turkish Airlines flight TK1760, departing at 4:20 PM and arriving back in Istanbul at 11:59 PM, marking the end of the tour.
